Brainspotting & Charting Examples:

Sustained mindfulness or focused mindfulness via Brainspotting used to process.....

Eye Position  on Left/Right/Center located via OW, IW, IOW, or Gazespot.process/setup.(depending on which you use)

BLS (bi-lateral sound) utilized to help process issue

SUDS began at,...and decreased to.....

Pt reported feeling more.........at the end of session

Insight increased about....,,during session

include start & stop times & clinician's signature (important for insurance)

“Shades up, Shades down” &/or vergence to promote polyvagal response via lowering autonomic response taught to ct for self care b/n sessions.

We normally do not chart while Brainspotting (only shorthand initials to remember eye position/technique used before starting/end of session) as it can get in the way of attunement with clients during BSP sessions.  I hope this helps.  If you want any additional information or ideas check out the Brainspotting Practitioners page on FB

Example of Prep Info for Brainspotting in Telehealth/Video Sessions we can send client:

Originally Brainspotting has been performed in the therapy office with the clinician setting up the therapy equipment.  More recently Brainspotting in video sessions has also been found to work excellently.  It can be most effective with some setup by the client beforehand.  Before a

session, you will need the following:

A device that can play audio (ipod or cell phone (in airplane mode).  Ideally, this would be a separate device then the one used for video in the session to avoid technical difficulties.

Headphones: The best headphones are a light pair that sit over the ears or comfortable secure sitting earphones.  Headphones or earphones should not limit environmental sound (you need to be able to hear the therapist).  In order for the bilateral sound to work optimally both ears need to receive sound in stereo.

Music: Brainspotting “biolateral” sound soundtracks (https://biolateral.com/catalog/#pg-17656-1 &/or available for free on many music media sites), downloaded to the device that music will play from, or https://www.bspuk.co.uk/bspuk-free-music-downloads/ Volume: low & set to repeat (so as not to interrupt process).

Optional/helpful items:

Sticky notes to help mark brainspot positions (only when needed)

A tall or multilevel object that can be moved to mark or fine tune a brainspot that is in your environment (ie. utensil holder, vase with sand or rice and a stick, ruler, or other longer straight object)

Sleep mask, bandanna or eye patch to cover one eye, if needed for isolating vision to one eye in brainspotting.

Tissue, essential oils, soft blanket
